The Beaconsfield Community Garden is located on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nations, whose distinct histories, cultures, and relationships to this land continue today. We acknowledge the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit peoples of Turtle Island have been stewards of these lands since time immemorial, in a reciprocal relationship where the land takes care of people when the people take care of the land.
Beaconsfield Community Garden recognizes that colonial agricultural practices have disproportionately harmed Indigenous peoples and the land. We understand community-based growing and food sovereignty are pathways toward more just and respectful relationships with the land and with one another. The Beaconsfield Community Garden is committed to growing native plants, fostering inclusive community-building, supporting food sovereignty, and building respectful accountable relationships with the local Indigenous Nations whose land we are on.
